HKU Admits Seven Outstanding Student-Athletes
via “Top Athletes Direct Admission Scheme” 2025/26

The University of Hong Kong (HKU) recently held the “Top Athletes Direct Admission Scheme” Presentation Ceremony 2025, welcoming and celebrating the achievements of seven outstanding student-athletes. The students were awarded the “HKU Lee Shau Kee Top Athletes Scholarship”, amounting to a total of HK$2.1 million, to support them in their pursuit of both sporting and academic excellence.
Launched at the beginning of the 2022/23 academic year, the “Top Athletes Direct Admission Scheme” aims to facilitate the enrolment of exceptional athletes into the University, with competitive admissions primarily based on candidates’ sporting achievements.
This year’s awardees include, Pang Wing Ka (Para Table Tennis), admitted to the Bachelor of Social Sciences programme; Mak Hiu Tung Tiffany (Sailing), Kwok Chun Ting (Athletics), Karlsson Jane Christa Ming Suet (Athletics), and Leung Ching Hang Wesley (Athletics), enrolled in the Bachelor of Business Administration programme; Wong Shun Yat (Fencing), set to pursue the Bachelor of Science in Speech-Language Pathology; and Jia Wai Yin (Athletics), admitted to the Bachelor of Biomedical Sciences programme.
Professor Bennett Yim, Director of Undergraduate Admissions and International Student Exchange expressed gratitude to the Lee Shau Kee Foundation for their generous and longstanding support of HKU; and acknowledged the invaluable support from various sports sectors in nominating exceptional student-athletes. Professor Yim remarked, “This year, we celebrate the arrival of talented athletes who excel across diverse fields. As our sports scholars embark on this exciting new journey in balancing the pursuit of knowledge and athletic excellence, HKU remains committed to providing the necessary support to help them realise their academic aspirations while excelling in the international sports arena.”
Throughout her impressive athletic career in para table tennis, Pang Wing Ka has consistently demonstrated remarkable prowess and determination, representing Hong Kong at numerous international competitions. Among her most notable achievements are a bronze medal in the women’s singles Class 6 event at the Hangzhou Asian Para Games 2023 and a silver medal in the same category at the 2023 World Abilitysport Games. She will soon embark on her undergraduate studies in Social Sciences at HKU.
Mak Hiu Tung Tiffany, a member of the 29er Hong Kong team, has earned exceptional accolades in the international sailing arena. Her accomplishments include winning first place in the U17 class at the 2023 29er EuroCup Poland, finishing second among female teams, and claiming the U17 championship title at the 2023 29er World Championships in Great Britain. As she begins her undergraduate studies in Business Administration at HKU, Tiffany is committed to pursuing excellence both on and off the water. She expresses gratitude for the flexibility offered by the Scheme and looks forward to exploring her career potential within the field of business while continuing her competitive sailing career.
Starting her fencing career at a young age, Wong Shun Yat displayed exceptional skills and perseverance. Her prowess is highlighted by a bronze medal win in the women’s foil individual (cadet) event at the 2023 World Junior and Cadet Fencing Championships – a milestone that made her the first Hong Kong athlete to secure a foil medal at the World Junior Championships. She will pursue the Bachelor of Science in Speech-Language Pathology at HKU.
Kwok Chun Ting, holder of the Hong Kong U20 men’s 100m record, represented Hong Kong at the 2024 Asian U20 Athletics Championships and 2024 World Athletics U20 Championships. He captured a bronze medal in the men’s 4x100m relay at the 2025 Asian Athletics Championships, marking Hong Kong’s first relay medal at the Championships in eight years. Kwok Chun Ting will commence his undergraduate studies in Business Administration in the upcoming academic year at HKU.
Holding the Hong Kong record for the U18 and U20 women’s 400m, Karlsson Jane Christa Ming Suet showcased her athletic prowess on the international stage, earning a bronze medal at the 2023 Asian U18 Athletics Championships. She is set to embark on her undergraduate journey in Business Administration at HKU.
Leung Ching Hang Wesley, holder of the Hong Kong U18 men’s 200m record, has claimed titles in both local and international competitions, including a gold medal in the men’s 200m event at the 2023 East Asian Youth Games. Drawn to the strong sense of camaraderie within the HKU community, Wesley aspires to grow holistically both as an athlete and as an individual through the course of his undergraduate studies in Business Administration at the University.
Jia Wai Yin, a member of the Hong Kong athletic team at the 2024 Asian U20 Athletics Championships, delivered an impressive performance by earning a bronze medal in the U20 Women’s Long Jump event and breaking both the Hong Kong U18 and U20 records. Enrolled in the Bachelor of Biomedical Sciences programme at HKU, Wai Yin is dedicated to developing her knowledge and skills in biomedical sciences while striving to represent Hong Kong on more international stages.
The "HKU Lee Shau Kee Top Athletes Scholarship" was established in 2022 with support from the Lee Shau Kee Foundation. The Scholarship aims to support outstanding student-athletes admitted to HKU, enabling them to pursue their dual-track development in sports and academics. Since its inception, a total of 27 top athletes have been awarded, including Coleman Wong (Tennis), Cindy Cheung Sum Yuet (Swimming), Tse Ying Suet (Badminton) and Russell Williams Aylsworth (Sailing).
HKU will support the student-athletes admitted via the “Top Athletes Direct Admission Scheme” with personal academic advice, flexible learning arrangements, counselling services, and physical training. The Scholarship awarded facilitates the holistic development of the athletes, helping them pursue their academic aspirations, explore international exchange opportunities, and continue to excel in their sports career.
